Overview
In addition to the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), some residency programs use alternative application platforms based on specialty or applicant status. These platforms provide centralized submission and matching services similar to ERAS but operate independently for specific specialties or military applicants.
Purpose
To facilitate residency applications and document delivery for programs that do not participate in ERAS or that require specialty-specific application systems.
Key Platforms
- Military Graduate Medical Education Applications: Military students submit applications through their branch-specific Medical Operational Data System under the guidance of the Director of the Military Program.
- San Francisco Match: Provides application and matching services for specialties including ophthalmology and plastic surgery.
Residency Centralized Application Service (ResidencyCAS): Used by Obstetrics and Gynecology and Emergency Medicine programs to provide a centralized application process.
Token Distribution
Students planning to apply to these specialties will be granted access to ResidencyCAS in their third year of study (OMS III). Students receive an email invite (token) once the Office of the Registrar confirms eligibility. The token is used to confirm eligibility to register for ResidencyCAS.
Student Responsibilities
Students applying through these platforms are responsible for following platform-specific requirements regarding application timelines, required documents, and letters of recommendation. The Office of the Registrar uploads official medical school transcripts, and the Department of Clinical Education uploads the Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE), in accordance with each platform’s guidelines.
